Steve Miller
I now have 125 hours on it. On the Sun-N-Fun trip I logged nearly
25 hours going to and from along with quiet a bit of flying
around central Florida. The only problems I have had other
than routine maintenance has been with some of the pin striping
coming off the leading edges and cracking of prop spinners.
The first one I replaced and the second one I have repaired and
it seems to be holding up alright.
I do get some buffeting from the windshield, however, what
I have found is that the front windshield causes the wind to go
up and over the rear windshield completely. The wind that I
feel in the rear cockpit is passing over my head and going down
my back. The wind coming around the sides of the
windshields causes more of a buffet than the top but even this is
not unpleasant. My windshields to begin with (the tinted
ones in the first pictures I sent you) did cause quiet a bit of
the buffeting that Jesse mentioned. The ones I have now are
2" taller than the originals.
There is a lot of air passing my feet going forward at cruise
speed with the front cockpit uncovered but when I have the front
cover on, the airflow below shoulder level is down to zero.
To answer the rain question, I have only flown through rain
of any significance one time and that was on the way back from
Sun-N-Fun last month. The front windshield was almost
completely blind due to the rain and the rear one had very little
rain on it probably due to the blanking effect I mentioned
above. Anyway, I got no water in either cockpit
.
As a comparision to my plane I can remember back to July 96 when
I had the opportunity to fly your plane while Rick still had
it. As best I can recall, there was not enough
difference between the two types of windshields to tell.
